Shaping the Owl

Owl in Progress

Owl in Progress

I love this picture!  The owl has been roughed out and a little sanding done on it and already the expression is just wonderful!  There are a lot of lights at the end of the tunnel or markers when carving an piece.  The light at the end of the first tunnel is the completion of the rough out stage. The wood was cut out with a bandsaw in the general shape and with the use of chisels and knives, the bird takes shape.   Soon this piece will be sanded with 6 different grits of sand paper before the feather burning process.  I start with 150 grit which is course, and move all the way down to 600 grit.  This gives me the perfect surface to burn on.  And as well, another marker completed.
