Watch closely in our inner selves, and we see a desire for rest. Even Jesus needed it and talked about it. He was aware of the demands and weight of religion. No pictures existed of God except from those fearful artists who painted and formed a frightening, intolerant God out of their own, insecure image. Jesus was crucified precisely because he didn’t fit their image. Once Jesus is baptized, scripture says that the spirit of God came as a dove and landed on Him. We have a brand new picture of God after this, of love, of hope, of rest. Thus, a carved dove I created a few years ago, at rest, like the longing of our souls!
